People have been wearing our 501® jeans for more than 150 years. And along the way, we’ve introduced even more timeless fits to the 500 series. From the 501® jeans, to the ’93, to the 550™ and everything in between—these classic denim styles have been closet staples worldwide since their inception. But you might be wondering how they all compare to one another. Today we’re taking a deep dive on all the fits and how they compare to the legendary 501® Original.

THE BLUEPRINT: 501® ORIGINAL

This certified denim legend is the OG that started it all. Representing the past, present and future of style, our 501® Original is the blueprint for every pair of modern jeans in existence right now (crazy, right?). With a versatile, straight fit and effortlessly cool silhouette, they’re designed to look good on literally everybody. The patented durable rivets and five-pocket styling keep them timeless, while our signature button fly adds authentic old-school flair. Oh and did we mention this fit really does get better with age? (We have over 150 years to prove it.)

THE BLUEPRINT: 501® ORIGINAL

501® VS. 501® ’93

Think back to 1993. That was a good year. If you were around then, you probably spent most of it on a skateboard. And if you were on a skateboard, you might remember these: our 501® ’93. But if you weren’t around, here’s the lowdown on this fit: These vintage-inspired jeans have a slightly higher front so they sit at your waist. But just like the original, they have a fuller seat, waist and thigh—plus the signature straight leg, from knee to ankle, bringing that true early ’90s skate culture to a new generation.

501® VS. 502™ Taper

Prefer a more fitted look? First introduced in 1967, Levi’s® 502™ Regular Taper Jeans are a more refined, modern alternative to the straight jean you love. When compared to the classic 501® jeans, the 502™ has a more tapered silhouette from the thigh through the ankle. They also feature extra room in the thigh and a clean, tapered cut make them easy to style without compromising comfort.

501® VS. 505™ Regular Fit

It’s no secret we love us a button fly, but sometimes, you need a zipper. Meet the first-ever pair of zip-fly jeans. Patented in 1967, our 505™ Regular Fit has a similar cut to the 501® Original and sits perfectly at the waist, but they also have a slightly more relaxed fit and a versatile straight leg for comfortable movement. It’s a style that you’ll reach for again and again (and again… well you get the idea).

501® VS. 511™ Slim Fit

Our 511™ Slim Fit is your not-so-skinny skinny jeans for the days when you want the style, but don’t want to sacrifice comfort. Compared to our 501® jeans, the 511™ jeans have a slimmer cut with a slightly smaller leg opening—without feeling too tight. People love their perfectly streamlined fit that was designed to feel like they’ve been tailored just for you. This vintage-inspired look is slim through the seat and thigh for a flattering fit that adds sophistication to any outfit.

501® VS. 511™ Slim Fit

501® VS. 513™ Slim Straight

Can’t decide between a slim or straight fit? Why not both? Our 513™ Slim Straight is a low-rise fit that’s narrow up top and eases throughout the leg, creating a look that gives you the best of both worlds. This zip-fly style is made with stretch to give you a tailored look that’s comfy for all-day wear.

501® VS. 514™ Straight Fit

A fit that’s not too relaxed, but also not too straight. We call it the sweet spot—otherwise known as our 514™ Straight. This versatile, streamlined look was designed for medium and athletic builds. Constructed with a hint of stretch for easy movement and major comfort, this style was made to look good with tees, button-up shirts or pretty much anything really.

501® VS. 514™ Straight Fit

501® VS. 541™ Athletic Taper

If you have a muscular or athletic build, this pair is for you. Our 541™ Athletic Taper offers more room in the thigh and seat for comfort and mobility, but starts to taper at the knee down to the ankle for a sharp, streamlined look. It’s the perfect blend of contemporary style with a relaxed feel and a slightly tailored finish.

501® VS. 550™ Relaxed Fit

Introduced in 1985, our 550™ Relaxed Fit is like the 501® Original, but more relaxed. This comfy, baggy-but-not-too-baggy classic features extra room throughout with a slight taper at the leg that was made to look like it was tailored just for you.
